Thru Nannu's eyes: Glimpse of Ireland....
Visiting Ireland through our 2-week self-drive first-time holiday here barely quenched our thirst for this incredible country better known as the “Emerald Isle”.
This ever lush green island, home of Guinness Beer, Riverdance & Enya😊, the Giant’s Causeway, the Blarney Stone, Ringforts and Waterford Crystal, was a wondrous, cherished memory.
After disembarking at Dun Laoghaire we spent the next 2 weeks driving and visiting towns and villages such as Waterford , Tramore, Oughterard, Skerries and Kinsale (loved this one…you’ve got to visit!). We explored counties such as Cork, Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Galway and others all steeped in history, folklore and importantly, wonderful hospitality.
Throughout we stayed in charming and welcoming B&B’s (such as Cliff House @ Waterford, Kilbrogan House @ Bandon and Avarest House in Antrim). Might I add that the time I spent in researching and selecting all the B&Bs was so worthwhile as all the hosts were incredibly helpful and accommodating😊.
Our eyes constantly “feasted” on the evergreen countryside carpeting the gentle hills. We purposely drove through back roads, took “wrong turns”, dawdled in cozy bays and marveled at sheer cliffs. Whilst these trails meandered and “ate” into our time getting from A to B, it was soooo worthwhile😊.
At one time as we exited the Connemara National Park we came across a couple of gents “harvesting” peat. It was such a delight to watch and chat with them and they explained the entire product and process.
There were far too many delightful highlights but one stands out for me as I am and will always be a MASSIVE John Wayne fan😊…. We visited/explored the village of Cong in County Galway where the movie “The Quite Man” was filmed. We visited the “Quite Man Heritage Cottage” and dawdled on the famous bridge. The surrounding countryside was simply enchanting.
I hope you enjoy this glimpse of Ireland “Thru Nannu’s Eyes….”
