Thru Nannu's eyes: Great Ocean Rd, VIC....
Let me take you to one of Australia’s most iconic, historic and picturesque coastline: The Great Ocean Road in VIC.
We took our time (5 days) in driving through this 243 kms stretch of road which, whilst winding at times, is well maintained, scenic & captivating countryside most of the way and I’m very certain it’s on every Australian’s “Bucket List”.
We started out from Geelong (and had lunch at Cunningham Pier) and leisurely drove to Torquay, Aireys Inlet (and stopping at world famous surfing strip of Bells Beach), Anglesea (and the local lighthouse made famous in the Australian movie “Round the Twist”),
We overnighted in B&B’s at Lorne, Apollo Bay, Port Campbell and Port Fairy. During the days we visited and explored numerous sites/places including Teddy’s Lookout & Erskine Falls (@ Lorne), Kenneth River Koala Walk (@ Kenneth River), Otway Fly Tree Top & Park (@ Otway National Park), London Bridge (@ Port Campbell).
We also dropped in on numerous historical sites dotting this incredible coastline all the way to Port Fairy & Mt Gambier (SA) AND the equally, numerous spots to stop to take in/photograph the picturesque scenery, mesmerizing coast and endless ocean.
I should mention that the towns along the Great Ocean Road offer many tantalizing restaurants, cafes and pubs offering a range of cuisines. In all that we visited, the ambience was delightful, relaxing and great to experience….
Might I add that mingling with the locals in the pubs was especially welcomed as most were a fountain of practical information and an excuse to share a drink (or two) with new friends😊….
The showpiece, the jewel, the “tour de force” of this part of our holiday was the time we spent absorbing the Twelve Apostles famous landmark and region. It was a breathtaking natural vista. Awesome to behold. Proud to be Australian…..We explored and generally delighted in finally getting ourselves to visit the region…..
I hope you enjoy this extract from our 5-week Southern Australia holiday “thru Nanna’s eyes”….
