Thru Nannu's eyes: Saone River Cruising
Boarding the Scenic Sapphire riverboat for a 7-day Rhone River cruise was our first exposure to river cruising.
Before boarding at Chalon-sur-Soane we had a spent a week in Paris staying in a suite at the Regina Hotel. Whilst in Paris we roamed the canal city of Bruges (in Belgium) for a day, relished a day sightseeing in Monet’s Garden (in Giverny), delighted in the champagne vineyards in Reims on yet another day and as for the rest we simply soaked up revisiting Musee d’Orsay, the Louvre and many of Paris’s beautiful Spring gardens.
Prior to boarding at Chalon-sur-Soane, we spent a few days exploring this small town most especially its idyllic central & historic square, glorious weekend markets, numerous tantalizing cafes and importantly for us, its connection to the Knights of Malta.
From Chalon-sur-Soane, we navigated downstream through Beaume, Tournus (Burgundy region) and Macon (Beaujolais region) feasting on memorable countryside, rambling along quaint streets and discovering remarkable history.
Half way, we arrived at Lyon (France’s most famous Renaissance city), sitting at the junction of the Rhone & Saone rivers and what a wonder we found….difficult to leave.
We “sailed” on to Touron, Viviers, Chateau Neuf-du-Pape, Avignon, Gorde, Lisle-sur-la-Sorgue, Arles and disembarking at Tarascon.
